Cornelius knows how to combine lakeside living with small-town holiday charm. This fall and winter, the town is offering a packed schedule of events, creative restaurant specials, and plenty of live music to keep your calendar full.
The town’s big, free community tree lighting and family festival is slated for the end of November. The Town of Cornelius lists Light Up Cornelius as a single afternoon/evening event (recent town calendar shows the event on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 p.m.; expect musical performances, children’s activities, model trains, a sled hill, and a Santa visit).
Lake Norman’s popular lighted boat parade brings dozens of decorated boats across the water; the 2025 parade is scheduled for December 20, 2025, with a parade window roughly 5:30–8:00 p.m. along popular viewing points. If you want a lakefront spot, arrive early at Apps and Taps, Stumpy Creek Park, or other public vantage points to stake out viewing.
Cain Center runs a full holiday schedule (ticketed concerts and family shows). Sons of Serendip, the Billboard-charting classical-crossover quartet and America’s Got Talent finalists, are returning this year for a special holiday performance. Known for their soulful blend of vocals, harp, piano, and cello, the group has captivated audiences worldwide with their unique interpretations of pop music. On select Mondays from 7 to 11 p.m., OTPH hosts one of the best open mic nights in town, a laid-back yet electric atmosphere filled with raw talent, original music, and spontaneous collaborations. With rotating craft beers and cocktails, a full house PA setup (including keyboard, bass, vocal mics, and an acoustic drum kit), and the guidance of host Ian Cunningham, the night is perfect for both performers and music lovers. Featured artist sets showcase some of the area’s top up-and-coming talent, with upcoming dates on October 13, October 17, December 22, and December 29.
These waterfront and Main Street favorites periodically host ticketed or reservation-only holiday dinners and special menus (New Year’s Eve prix-fixe or holiday tasting nights). Their websites have event or reservations sections where they post prix-fixe menus and booking windows; call the restaurant for current holiday packages and seating times.
